Mood swings: 5 quick ways to brighten up your day

1

There are many times when you just lose your temper, or feel depressed, or just feel a sudden burst of different emotions rushing through you simultaneously. Well, no need to feel embarrassed or awkward about your sudden mood swings. No matter what the reason is, there are ways to bring your mood swings under control. Take a look at some of them.

A balanced diet

Proper food intake is a great solution for mood swings. Take a healthy diet that will not only keep you fit, but also allow you to balance your mood. Choose green vegetables, salads, and fruits as part of your diet. It covers all the necessary minerals, vitamins (A, C, E) and nutrients which are essential for a body. Stay away from complex carbohydrates and processed foods, and also limit your caffeine intake. Have green tea or herbal tea to rejuvenate yourself, instead of consuming the regular tea and coffee.

2

Work out
A great workout not only keeps you fit, but also helps in triggering the “happy hormones” in your body. If you are not able to do any heavy exercises, then join yoga camps or simply dance! Choose an exercise routine that is comfortable, and save at least 30 minutes daily, for fitness. A simple walk in the garden, accompanied with some deep breathing exercises, can work wonders too.

3

Sound sleep
A woman has a lot of responsibilities to handle, and to fulfill them efficiently, it is important to get enough sleep. Insufficient sleep causes irritation and headaches. At least, 7 to 8 hours of sleep is essential, so plan your daily routine accordingly.

4

Drink Water
Water cleanses your body, and gives you energy. At times, when you feel completely exhausted, two glasses of water with some glucose can be really refreshing. Caffeine and alcohol intake can cause mood swings, and so, should be avoided completely. These can be replaced with some juice or healthy soups. Also, water is your best friend if you wish to enjoy gorgeous skin and a healthy body.

5

Help from sun gods!
The sun might be an enemy for your skin at times, but it is certainly a great doctor for your mood swings. Some amount of exposure to the sun is good to get rid of depression and other negative feelings. Enjoy 15 minutes of walk in sun light to lighten up your mood. Always wear your sunscreen before you go out. Enjoy your walk in the early morning hours when the sun is not too harsh.

6

These simple ways can definitely help you get your mood swings under control, especially during the time of your menstrual cycle.

Drinking Water on Empty Stomach

drink water

It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning. Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value.

We publish below a description of use of water for our readers. For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness, bronchitis asthma, TB meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.

METHOD OF TREATMENT

  1. As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 x 160ml glasses of water
  2. Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute
  3. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
  4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours
  5. Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
  6. The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.

The following list gives the number of days of treatment required to cure/control/reduce main diseases:

  1. High Blood Pressure (30 days)
  2. Gastric (10 days)
  3. Diabetes (30 days)
  4. Constipation (10 days)
  5. Cancer (180 days)
  6. Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in  the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards – daily.

This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times. It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life. Drink Water and Stay healthy and Active.

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain…

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.

Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the
intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Untreated gum problems may lead to organ failure, cancer

dental-care

Considering the acute gum inflammation, which leads to profuse bleeding, bad breath and loosening of the teeth, health experts have cautioned against several health problems, as severe as cancer, if left untreated.

Do your parents nag you to brush your teeth before going to bed and after meals? If yes, then pay heed to their words as it can save you from the terrible consequences six-year-old Shivam Vatsayan had to face only because he skipped brushing his teeth.

It was two months ago when Shivam suffered a severe organ failure, caused by gingivitis (inflammation of gum tissues), which soon developed into periodontitis (a gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports teeth) due to lack of effective medication.

Considering the acute gum inflammation, which leads to profuse bleeding, bad breath and loosening of the teeth, health experts have cautioned against several health problems, as severe as cancer, if left untreated.

Smita Madan, a dental surgeon at Axis Dental, said signs like swollen red gums and bleeding should never be ignored.

“If avoided, the condition advances to periodontitis, which makes the gumline recede, exposing the roots of the teeth to bacteria attack,” Madan told IANS.

She added that untreated periodontal diseases can increase inflammation in the body.

”Such increased inflammation may aggravate the risk for developing severe health complications like cardiovascular diseases, organ failure, dementia and even cancer in some cases,” she said.

In periodontitis, gums pull away from the teeth and form infection-prone spaces or “pockets” which can even lead to breaking down of the teeth bone and connective tissues that hold the teeth in place.

If untreated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed and the teeth may eventually loosen.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over 70 per cent of Indian children under the age of 15 suffer from gum diseases due to poor oral hygiene and nourishment.

WHO added that such poor levels of hygiene cause several health hazards including cancer, organ failure, dementia and rheumatoid arthritis if left untreated.

Sageer, a consultant dental surgeon at the Gurgaon-based Paras Hospital, agreed and said there were various factors that link gum diseases to cardiac problems.

”The most common bacteria present in dental plaque can cause blood clots that induce heart attacks when they escape into the bloodstream,” Sageer told IANS.

He said extra caution needs to be taken by pregnant women suffering from periodontities as gum-related problems can also lead to premature births.

”A baby who is born before term is susceptible to a number of health ailments. Mothers who got themselves treated for periodontal disease were less likely to deliver before term than those who did not. Links have been found between chronic kidney diseases and gum problems too,” Sageer told IANS.

Saying periodontal disease was the leading causes of tooth loss among adults, Sageer stated that the condition was also frequently linked to diabetes.

Health experts also have a word of caution for alcoholics and chain smokers suffering from dental problems.

“They are more prone to such health hazards, as alcohol irritates the soft tissues in the mouth and also decreases the amount of saliva formation,” said Romsha Vashith, consultant dentist at Ghaziabad-based Columbia Asia hospital.

Quoting a 2000 survey, Vashith said the prevalence of dental diseases was the highest among Indian children at 65.5 percent, followed by Indonesia.

Suggesting preventive measures, she said periodic dental visits, screenings, referrals and supervised brushing programmes in schools were the need of the hour.

“Special measures need to be taken in rural areas, as dental disease is very prevalent there due to shortage of hospitals and dentists. Dental problems can be fought by maintaining proper oral hygiene and increasing awareness regarding them,” she said.

Lower Back Pain Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

Lower Back Pain Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment

The lower back is an intricate structure of interconnected and overlapping elements:

Tendons and muscles and other soft tissues
Highly sensitive nerves and nerve roots that travel from the lower back down into the legs and feet
Small and complex joints
Spinal discs with their gelatinous inner cores.
An irritation or problem with any of these structures can cause lower back pain and/or pain that radiates or is referred to other parts of the body. Pain from resultant lower back muscle spasms can be severe, and pain from a number of syndromes can become chronic.

While lower back pain is extremely common, the symptoms and severity of lower back pain vary greatly. A simple lower back muscle strain might be excruciating enough to necessitate an emergency room visit, while a degenerating disc might cause only mild, intermittent discomfort.

Identifying the symptoms, along with an accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause of the pain, is the first step in obtaining effective pain relief.

10 Tips for Going Vegan, Staying Vegan & Thriving

Vegan_Ayurveda

Veganism is about opening your heart and mind to care more for animals, the environment and your own body. But how do you get there? How do you make the transition to a vegan lifestyle without feeling deprived? How do you stay vegan over the long term? And how do you make a vegan lifestyle one of abundance, compassion and amazing flavors?

My own transition to veganism was rocky, to say the least, because I didn’t seek out the right resources to help me. I thought I would just eliminate meat and dairy and eat all the same things I did before. But pasta for dinner day after day is hardly a diet that inspires anyone to stay vegan. These are ten tips I wish I had known when I began to make the transition to a vegan lifestyle:

1. Know your reasons. Are you devoted to being compassionate to animals? Are you concerned with the environmental impacts of factory farming? Are you doing it to improve your health? Be clear about why you are becoming vegan both for yourself and so that you can articulate it to others who ask. This will help you stay committed to the project of becoming vegan over the long run. And it will also help with your interactions with the people in your life who will be curious about this decision.

2. Get educated. Find some vegan lifestyle and recipe blogs and read them daily. Track down some vegan cookbooks (there are lots of ‘used’ vegan cookbooks out there these days).

3. Find your community. Search out other vegans. You might already know some vegans—call them up and tell them you’re becoming vegan and would love to talk about it over some awesome vegan food. If you don’t know any vegans, never fear! Ask for help. I recently had someone contact me who is becoming vegan and has never even met another vegan. If you’re in this boat, check online to see if there is a vegan meet-up in your town. If not, consider starting one—there are bound to be others like you. Follow the online vegan blogging community; it is warm, welcoming and diverse and you can find your people that way.

4. Splurge. Even if you don’t have much money to spend on food, make sure you buy yourself at least one thing that’s special every time you go to the grocery store. Treat yourself to a box of those gorgeous berries. Or a totally decadent vegan chocolate bar. For me, I dove headlong into vegan baking and whenever I was feeling a little deprived, I would whip up some vegan cookies or cupcakes and the world would be right again.

5. Find new comfort foods. A) Find some recipes to cook at home that are your go-to comfort food meals. For me this is mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy or a vegetable pot pie. B) Find some menu items at your favorite restaurants that are vegan or find some new restaurants that have vegan items you love. For those nights when you can’t imagine cooking anything, you’ll need these options.

6. Try new things. Whether this is a vegetable you’ve never heard of or a restaurant you’ve never tried, try out new things. In some ways, you are retraining your taste buds and who knows what those little guys might like!

7. Be proactive. When negotiating eating functions with family and friends, let them know you’re becoming vegan and offer to bring something vegan to contribute to the meal. If you’re going out, call the restaurant ahead of time and ask them what vegan options they have or would be willing to make for you.

8. Visit an animal sanctuary. Find a local animal sanctuary and schedule a visit. Or better yet—volunteer! Sanctuaries always need good volunteers and there’s nothing like giving a pig a belly rub to strengthen your resolve to stay vegan.

9. Get colorful! Dark red beets. Green kale. Rainbow chard. Garnet yams. Blueberries. Eat a rainbow of colors of fruits and vegetables and you can’t go wrong. Your plate will be beautiful and inspiring, as well as packed with a whole range of nutrients and vitamins.

10. Be compassionate. Above all, be kind to yourself. If you slip off the wagon, don’t sweat it and get right back on. This a drastic change you are making and it takes some time. Also, be kind to others who might not understand your transition. Try your best to be patient and open and try to stay positive as you navigate this process.

How to lower cholesterol using foods instead of drugs

Mixed-Fruits-Bulk-Vegetables-Produce

If your diet gave you high cholesterol, your food choices can lower it too. Eating fatty, fried, high calorie foods sends your cholesterol levels through the roof, especially if you make a steady diet of these unhealthy foods. If you have high cholesterol, you are not alone – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (1) says that 17 percent of the adults in the United States has high cholesterol.

The first step is to understand the role cholesterol plays in your body. You may be surprised to learn that cholesterol is essential to every cell in your body. Cholesterol is important to cell membranes, metabolism, and for the synthesis of hormones. Cholesterol is so important, in fact, that your liver would make cholesterol if you did not consume any foods containing cholesterol.

Most people in the United States consume much more cholesterol than their bodies need. Cholesterol is a fatty, wax-like substance that can build up in your bloodstream and increase your risk for heart disease. High cholesterol contributes greatly to the high rates of heart disease among Americans.

Many people try to rely on medications to lower cholesterol levels artificially. These cholesterol-lowering drugs, known as statins, work by blocking a substance your liver needs to make cholesterol. While some find these drugs beneficial, others worry about the associated risks of statins, which include cognitive impairment, increased risk for high blood sugar levels and the development of type 2 diabetes, and muscle damage, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (2).

Once you know how to lower cholesterol using foods, you can keep your cholesterol levels under control without resorting to dangerous drugs.

Eat a bowl of oatmeal every day
Oatmeal contains soluble fiber, which reduces the amount of cholesterol put into your bloodstream. Mayo Clinic (3) recommends you consume 5 – 10 grams of soluble fiber each day. A 1 ? cup bowl of oatmeal provides about six grams of fiber. Add another four grams of soluble fiber by tossing in bananas or other fruit.

Get fruity
Eat apples, grapes, strawberries and citrus fruits. These fruits contain pectin, a special type of soluble fiber known to lower cholesterol levels.

Eat fish twice a week
The American Heart Association (4) recommends you eat at least two servings of fatty fish per week. Fatty fish contain omega-3 fatty acids, known to improve heart health. The following fish contain the most omega-3 fatty acids:

Albacore tuna
Halibut
Herring
Lake trout
Mackerel
Salmon
Sardines
For best results, enjoy fish baked or grilled rather than fried. Cook with low-sodium, low-fat oils and seasonings.

Go nuts over walnuts and almonds
Eat a handful of nuts on most days of the week – about an ounce and a half a day will do. Walnuts, almonds and some other nuts are also rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids that keep blood vessels healthy. Do not go too nutty, though, as nuts are high in calories and could lead to weight gain.

Switch to olive oil
Olive oil contains a potent mix of antioxidants to lower your cholesterol. Replace two tablespoons of butter, lard or mayonnaise with olive oil each day. Again, olive oil is high in calories so go easy on the amount.

Eat food fortified with sterols and stanols
Sterols and stanols prevent your body from absorbing cholesterol from the food you eat. Food scientists extract sterols and stanols from plants then add them to foods, including margarine, granola bars, fruit juices and even chocolate. The Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide (5) says that consuming 2 grams of plant sterols each day can reduce your unhealthy cholesterol levels by as much as 10 percent.

Lower cholesterol by avoiding foods that raise it
One of the best ways to lower cholesterol is to avoid eating those foods that raise levels. Cut back on saturated fat, which is that white “marbling” you see in meat when it is cold. Start by replacing fatty cuts of meat with extra lean versions, opting for low fat or skim milk and cheese instead of regular varieties, and opting for vegetable or olive oil instead of butter. Avoid trans fat whenever possible.

Lower your cholesterol and associated risk for heart disease by making smart food choices. Your heart will repay you with a long and healthy life.

12 potent herbs to enhance immune function

980herbs

There are numerous herbs which are known, both through traditional knowledge and modern scientific research, to benefit the immune system. Typically, such herbs work by directly attacking and destroying disease-causing pathogens, increasing the numbers and/or activity of immune cells in the body, or both. Here are some powerful immune-boosting herbs, in no particular order.

1.Astragalus

Astragalus was described by Mark Stengler, ND, as “one of the best herbs in the world for enhancing the protective effects of the immune system.” This herb boosts immunity by increasing the numbers and/or enhancing the function of various immune cells in the body, including macrophages, natural killer cells, white blood cells and antibodies. It also stimulates the production of interferon, a potent antiviral compound. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, where astragalus is also known as Huang Qi, it is used to help prevent common colds and upper respiratory tract infections.

2.Echinacea

Echinacea gives the immune system a boost by stimulating the immune cells that patrol the body and fight off disease-causing pathogens. This herb raises both the number and activity of white blood cells, a core component of the body’s immune system, and activates interferons, which are required for protective immune defense against pathogens such as viruses, bacteria, parasites and tumor cells. Echinacea also contains other chemicals which prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses, and has even been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties.

One particular study in Germany found that 30 drops of Echinacea taken thrice daily helped to enhance the activity of phagocytes, a type of immune cell, in the body by 120% after 5 days of consumption.

The direct antiviral properties of Echinacea make it valuable considering the limits of conventional medicine in dealing with viral infections.

3.Licorice

There are two compounds in licorice, glycyrrhizin and glycyrrhetinic acid, which research has shown to elevate the levels of interferon in the body. This helps to keep the replication of viruses and other pathogens in check. Licorice root is actually found in many Chinese, Ayurvedic, Japanese and even Western formulas for treating infections and infectious diseases.

In Europe, physicians have a high regard for licorice root as one of the best herbal treatments for fighting viral hepatitis. Both hepatitis B and hepatitis C are treated intravenously using licorice in Europe.

4.Mushrooms

Medicinal mushrooms, including shiitake, reishi and maitake, contain compounds which ramp up the immune system and enhance the body’s ability to fight diseases and infections. Shiitake and in particular maitake have also been shown to have anticancer properties.

5.Goldenseal

Goldenseal has been found in research to have antiviral and antibacterial properties, as well as the ability to both increase immune cell production and enhance immune cell activity.

6.Onions

Onions help to protect the body against fungal, bacterial and worm infections. It can be used in a broth or soup to help combat sore throats and upper respiratory tract infections.

7.Garlic

Garlic also contains compounds which fight and destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and even cancer cells. For the best effect, fresh garlic should be chopped or crushed, left for 10-15 minutes, and then eaten raw.

8.Ginseng

Research in Germany found that Siberian ginseng boosts immunity. In particular, the activity of lymphocytes are enhanced, which are immune cells in the body which fight infection. In addition, Chinese ginseng has also been found to give immune function a boost.

9.Cordyceps

Cordyceps has been found in both human and animal studies to have immunity-boosting properties.

10.Green tea

Research carried out on animals has revealed that green tea helped enhance the production of immune cells in the body.

11.Spirulina

Spirulina has been shown to help stimulate various aspects of the immune system. Certain spirulina extracts have also displayed powerful antiviral properties.
